“K-9 Unit and Narcotics Detection” by SGT. CHRISTOPHER DAVIS & K-9 VEGAS

Feb 21, 2019

K-9 Vegas is a ten-year old Belgian Malinois, born on 7-7-07. She is currently the only female K-9 working for the Akron Police Department. Vegas is a cross-trained police dog which means she is not only trained for patrol work, but also for narcotics detection.  She is trained to detect marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and any of their respective derivatives.  Her patrol abilities consist of area searches, building searches, tracking, article searches and criminal apprehension.

When Vegas isn’t working, she enjoys walks and catching the Frisbee.

Akron Police Sergeant Chris Davis is Vegas’ handler.  Come for an inspiring program and learn how this K-9 assists in important police work.  You will be in awe at the teamwork exhibited by this Akron Police Officer and his K-9 Partner.

Vegas won the “Top Dog” title the last two years at the Police K-9 Challenge at Lock 3 in downtown Akron.  The competition consists of Agility, Apprehension and Obedience exercises.  K-9 teams from the Akron Police Department along with other Police agencies in the area participated in the competition.
