MAKESHIFT THEATER SIGNS LEASE FOR AKRON’S HISTORIC COACH HOUSE VENUE

Makeshift Theater is thrilled to announce the signing of a lease agreement with the Akron Woman's City Club (AWCC) for the historic carriage house theater space located at 732 West Exchange Street. This arrangement secures a permanent home for the nonprofit theater company and promises to bring vibrant theatrical productions to the Akron community for years to come.

The venue, commonly known to local theater enthusiasts as "Coach House," has a rich history of theatrical performances in Akron.

"This agreement represents a significant milestone for our organization," said Jane Bond, president, Makeshift Theater. "Having a dedicated performance space will allow us to expand our programming and further our mission of bringing quality theatrical experiences to the Akron community."

The carriage house is located on the southwest portion of the AWCC Estate, a five-acre property in Akron's vibrant West Hill neighborhood. Makeshift Theater will revitalize the historic structure while preserving its architectural integrity and cultural significance.

The Akron Woman's City Club has been a cornerstone of Akron's cultural landscape, and this partnership continues its legacy of supporting the arts in Summit County.

"We're honored to work with the Akron Woman's City Club on this exciting venture," Bond added. "The Coach House has been a beloved venue for theater productions in the past, and we look forward to honoring that tradition while bringing our creative vision to the space."

Makeshift Theater plans to announce its inaugural season at the Coach House location in the coming months, with productions expected to begin in late summer 2025. The company has recently brought staged readings of several classic and modern plays to local audiences via multiple community spaces.

Makeshift Theater, Inc. is a nonprofit theater company that produces thought-provoking, engaging theatrical experiences for the Akron community.
